This week I appeared on The Amp Hour podcast. We had a nice chat about electronics, Blender, emulators and SpaceChem. You can listen to it here: https://theamphour.com/697-leds-everywhere-with-tim-from-mitxela/ ------------- |

Really interesting! Left me with a sudden urge to buy a lathe :) I didn't expect The Witness to also be mentioned in the interview! I personally think these kinds of puzzle games (ones where you are just given the puzzles themselves to figure out) are really rewarding to solve, but also really hard to balance as well. The Witness, Taiji, Void Stranger, even TUNIC - have taught me that most of the time, the satisfaction from solving puzzles is not getting to see the ending or solution, but rather working out the solution by yourself. I guess this same thought can be applied to projects as well. ------------- |

Yeah I enjoyed The Witness, though some of it seemed a bit tedious. The time-sensitive challenge I think I only passed by a fluke, since there was quite a variation in difficulty of the generated puzzles. Also really weird is that for completely unrelated reasons, I watched Connections by James Burke just a couple of weeks before I played The Witness. When it featured in the game I was completely gobsmacked. Mad coincidence. I haven't played the other games you mentioned, I'll give them a look. ------------- |

I don't remember doing any timed sections - I might have missed it on my playthrough. I thought that the only 'extra' content were the obelisks, which do get a bit tedious to solve after a while. The time-sensitive challenge I think I only passed by a fluke, since there was quite a variation in difficulty of the generated puzzles. The videos in the game came a bit as a surprise to me, I didn't expect real video media to be interlaced with the cartoon-y graphics. I thought they were mostly from interviews, didn't know that one of them came from a documentary. It looks pretty interesting, I'll add it to my neverending watchlist :) As for the games I mentioned - excluding Taiji which is very similar to The Witness - they both present their puzzles in "layers" of difficulty, which is really interesting because most of the times it leads to discovering quirks of core game mechanics really late on in the gameplay. It leads to moments of "Wait -- I could do this all this time?!" that are priceless :) If you're interested in that, there are many I could recommend, like A Monster's Expedition, Animal Well, Blue Prince... Maybe you've heard of some of them, they're somewhat recent. ------------- |
