You've outdone yourself once again! I would be ecstatic to have a fraction of your tenacity and broad skillset. I'm noticing a theme when it comes to novel applications of exotic display technologies: having to ditch the matrix and go to the expense of direct-driving them. To get full-motion on eInk Wenting Channel* ended up having to employ FPGAs, and the Precision Clock Mark IV direct-drives the display to remain stable when filmed at high speed, right? I enjoy controlling Linux through silly interfaces entirely too much, so I must suggest making the flipdot display into a tty. You could get a whole 14x13 characters, if you used this ridiculous 4x4 pixel font: ![]() (Authored by some Dwarf Fortress player named Anapan sometime before 2011: https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=3839. The collection also has a 3x6 font.) I have used this font before - astonishingly, it is actually readable, if you squint. It seems like FreeCAD has fairly recently had a visual overhaul, but the workflow still needs work. The last thing I tried to model in it was an Aldrin cycler pendant, which I ended up giving up on due to the limitations of the sketcher. At least I've never really used any other CAD package, so I don't know what I'm missing! *https://www.youtube.com/@nbzwt ------------- |

As part of my testing I made a simple script that screen captures my laptop and sends it to the display, that was how I was able to run various videos on it later too. But it could do with work, because it's resizing the image and then optionally dithering, which looks terrible for text and line art. Here's a screenshot of some unused footage, as I pinch-zoom the text gets progressively less readable: ![]() The script was very hastily written though. Maybe I need to set my terminal font to be a pixel font, and then fix the window size so screenshotting it will line up pixel-for-pixel. ------------- |
