An alternative approach to the design that uses more "cheating" could be: No change - the lid contains a compass/hall sensor - the needle is controlled by a stepping motor Alternative control - use the bluetooth interface to send compass bearing to phone when lid is opened - return a needle bearing for the stepper, with attendant wiggle effects Power may still be an issue, but an old phone battery may suffice, in fact it could even operate over Wifi with a Raspberry Pi since Bluetooth is quite power hungry. Of course the down side is that you would have to carry a phone, or at least be in a Wifi hotspot to contact your server. Last edit by tonestones at 11 Feb 2024, 03:01 AM ------------- |
