Ahoy! First off just want to say I'm a massive fan—your depth of craft and commitment to knowledge sharing is next to none. Secondly, oh my god a forum!! I was just lamenting the demise of forums recently so it's delightful to find one. My main question is would you consider running a workshop? Something like a one or two day weekend course. I would happily pay a few hundred pounds and fly over from Dublin, and I know a decently sized group of people who would do the same. I imagine anyone on this forum within reach would also fit that bill. Could be fun as an experiment and if it works well could be a decent money maker. I did something similar for a Neon sign making workshop in Wakefield a few years ago: https://www.neonworkshops.com/workshops Anyway, thanks again for sharing your work and passion with the world! ------------- |

Hello, interesting idea. Also I'm tempted to try the neon workshop myself. I've considered doing workshops at events like EMF, there have been some excellent workshops which are extremely popular, usually places have to be assigned by lottery. Last month at WHY2025 there were some great workshops, I really wanted to do the flamethrower workshop but it was fully booked almost immediately. The main problem with hosting a workshop at a hacker camp though is that the host ends up missing most of the event. A stand alone workshop might be possible, but I'd need to find a venue. What would you want the workshop to be about? Perhaps, and this might be a stroke of genius, I could run a workshop called "Learn how to pack precision clock kits into boxes and post them to people" ... ------------- |

Yeah the neon one was super fun, can definitely recommend—I've still got my sculpture on my wall and you'd for sure dig some fun inspiration from it. It's mainly glass blowing! Ooh had never heard of EMF, sounds fun! And a flamethrower workshop sounds pretty sweet. As for topic, not entirely sure tbh! Covering a decent range of the skills from your projects could be fun. Some options could be: pick a mitxela project (from some subset that could work), bring your own project/idea, or possibly a new specific creation specifically designed to be good for teaching some of the skills. Or perhaps "the gang makes a linotype", a group project could be fun! ------------- |
