Unless you were going for a physical thing, instead of the scissor mechanism, you could use a distance sensor ( https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15569 ) between the two parts of the accordion. ------------- |

It's certainly possible. But one of the things I wanted to emulate is that when you press more keys, it becomes easier to open and close the accordion. When no buttons are pressed at all, it's very stiff. By adjusting the electrical resistance on the motors on the scissor mechanism, we could reproduce this. On the other hand, if it's electric we could forget the bellows entirely and just make pressing the keys make a sound. I do like the idea of generating electricity from opening and closing the scissor mechanism though. ------------- |
