At the end of the Charlie Star project you mentioned building a 20-LED version, using a 5-pin package - here's my take: https://github.com/rmd6502/charlie_heart
I started modifying it to use a tiny841 instead of a tiny85, since I was going to use an ADC line to measure a pulse sensor, but that never happened.

Thanks for sharing. The main thing I was referring to with the 20-LED star was just the mental puzzle of laying out the geometry for it. In your schematic you have all the wires collected in a bus -- very practical and clear, but still cheating!

Also, your heart appears to have edges made up from discrete straight lines. One thing Eagle does quite well (better than kicad in my experience) is curved lines. You could make them all into one smooth outline, PCB houses are usually completely fine with routing them out.
